Abstract

This paper is an exploration of the importance of women participation in politics. It examined the historical dimension of the participation of women in Nigerian politics while the concepts of politics and participation are analyzed. Within this analytical context, specific examples were provided on the important role that Nigerian women have played in politics from the pre-colonial period, as well as their roles and challenges during the colonial period. The paper also examined the effect of colonialism on women activism while also looking at the role of contemporary Nigerian women in politics. In conclusion, the paper discussed the importance of the inclusion of women in Nigerian
politics.
